If you have read about Korean cleansing oils in English, you have read about “Manyo Pure Cleansing Oil.” It is one of the genuine cult products — the one people say dissolves blackheads.
Stand in front of the Manyo shelf at an Olive Young in Seoul, though, and the box says something else. It says Pure Soybean Cleansing Oil.
That is not a translation quirk. Both products exist, and the brand sells both.
Two products, one nickname
Open Manyo’s own English site and you will find, on separate pages:
- Pure Soybean Cleansing Oil — the 200ml bottle currently ranking second on Google for the search term
- Pure Cleansing Oil Deep Clean — a different product on the same site
Amazon lists “MANYO Pure Cleansing Oil.” Olive Young Global lists “manyo Pure Soybean Cleansing Oil 200ml.” Reddit threads call it “Manyo Factory Pure Cleansing Oil” — the brand’s older name, still what 760 people a month search. Skin Cupid sells a “MA:NYO Pure Cleansing Oil Mini.” Costco carries it too, which is where another 110 searches a month land. And there is a Pure Cleansing Oil Deep Clean with its own 320 searches.
So five retailers, four names, and at least two actual formulas in circulation.

This matters because the two are not interchangeable if what you actually came for is the blackhead effect. The soybean version is what Korea stocks, and it is what Olive Young ranks.

The two-bottle bundle works out to about ₩11,250 a bottle — roughly a quarter off the single price. That configuration is an Olive Young exclusive and is not the SKU export sites carry, so a price comparison against an overseas listing is usually comparing different packages.

What the shelf tells you that a review cannot
The Manyo section carries a large yellow header, and it is worth reading literally:
1등 블랙헤드&피지 강력세정 — “No. 1 blackhead and sebum deep cleansing”
That is Olive Young’s own category call-out, printed on the shelf. Olive Young does not hand those out for marketing copy; they sit above products that move. The English internet arrived at “this dissolves blackheads” through reviews. Korea arrived at the same place through sales, and put a sign on it.
Next to the oil sits the matching Pure Soybean Cleansing Foam (31%), sold as a pair. That is how the line is merchandised here — oil first, foam second, double cleanse. Not as two independent products you choose between.
How to use it, and where it goes
About 140 people a month search how to use this, which is worth answering plainly because oil cleansers get used wrong.
It is a first cleanse, on dry skin, before water touches your face. Massage it in for longer than feels necessary — this is the step doing the blackhead work, and 30 seconds is not enough. Then emulsify: wet your hands, keep massaging until the oil turns milky, and only then rinse. Skipping emulsification is why people say oil cleansers leave a film.
Then follow with a foam. Korea merchandises this oil with the matching Pure Soybean Cleansing Foam as a pair for exactly that reason.

The front of the box states 87% oil content, 14 natural oils, plus soybean and tea tree. The soybean is what the Korean SKU is named for; tea tree is the reason it reads as a blackhead and sebum product rather than a gentle balm.

What Koreans actually reach for
Search interest, same month, two markets:

Notice the shape. In Korea the brand gets searched more than the individual product, because Koreans meet Manyo on the Olive Young shelf and browse the section. In English the product gets searched three times more than the brand — because people arrive from a review that named one bottle, and they have no shelf to browse.
That asymmetry is the whole reason the naming confusion persists. Korean shoppers never have to know the exact English product name. Overseas shoppers only have the name.
⚠️ A caveat on my numbers: Korea runs most of its search through Naver rather than Google, so Google’s Korean figures understate domestic interest. I use them for relative comparison inside one market, never as a headcount. Also worth flagging: English “manyo” searches include a car repair shop in Milwaukee and a hot spring in Tokyo, so the raw brand figure is noisier than the product figures.
Who this is for
Buy it if: you want the cleansing oil Korea itself labels as No. 1 for blackheads and sebum, you want a first-cleanse oil rather than a light micellar step, or you are in Korea and can take the two-bottle bundle at about ₩11,250 each.
Skip it if: you want a gentle, barely-there cleanse. This is merchandised as the heavy-duty end of the shelf.
