Every English-language review of this sunscreen I’ve read describes the same tube. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun, SPF50+ PA++++, rice extract, “no white cast.” All true.
None of them mention that the tube on the shelf in front of me says something different from the one on the brand’s own website.
The version confusion nobody explains
Pick this up at an Olive Young in Seoul and the English text on the tube reads:
Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotics — SPF50+ PA++++
That is the Beauty of Joseon relief sun sunscreen most English reviews mean when they say “the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen” — an SPF50+ PA++++ chemical filter. But it is one of several.
Now open the brand’s own site, the page that ranks first on Google for this product, and the headline product is:
Relief Sun : Rice + Niacinamide — SPF50+ PA++++
Two formulations, near-identical packaging, same product family. If you are standing in a Korean store trying to match what a reviewer told you to buy, or ordering from an import site and wondering which one you are getting, this is the thing you actually need to know — and it is the one thing no review tells you.
What is on the Korean shelf right now (September 2026): Rice + Probiotics. That is the tube in the photo above, with the Olive Young tester sticker still on it.
And there is a third one
While checking this I found the range is wider than two. On Beauty of Joseon’s own site, ranking second on Google for this product, there is also a Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh — a separate SKU from both the Probiotics and the Niacinamide versions.
English search interest splits across all three:
| Version | Monthly searches (US) |
|---|---|
| Relief Sun sunscreen (generic) | 9,900 |
| Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics | 3,600 · plus 260 for “rice”, 210 for “rice probiotics reviews” |
| Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh | 1,300 · 1,300 · 720 — about 3,320 combined |
| Relief Sun SPF50 / SPF 50 | 1,600 · 1,600 |
So this is not a product with two labels. It is a line with at least three formulations, and the one on the Seoul shelf in September 2026 is Rice + Probiotics.
If a reviewer told you “the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen,” they named a line, not a bottle. Check the second line of text under 맑은쌀 선크림 before you pay — that is where the formulation is written.
The actual Korean price
Here is what it costs where it is made, on the day I looked:
| Listing | [화잘먹] 조선미녀 맑은쌀 선크림 50ml + 20ml 증정 기획 |
| List price | ₩20,000 |
| Selling price | ₩13,500 (32% off) |
| What you get | 50ml tube + two 20ml minis — 90ml total |
| Per 10ml | ₩2,700 |
| Exclusive | ONLY 올리브영 단독기획 (Olive Young exclusive bundle) |
| Same-day delivery | 오늘드림 available |
| Shipping | ₩2,500, free over ₩20,000 |
That last block matters more than it looks. The 90ml bundle is an Olive Young-exclusive configuration — it is not the SKU most export sites carry, and they sell the bare 50ml tube. So when you compare against an overseas listing, you are often not comparing the same package.

What 4,393 Korean reviews look like
The Olive Young listing carries 4,393 reviews at 4.8 stars, and 31 people were viewing the page while I was on it.
Korean review counts are worth reading differently from Western ones. Olive Young reviews are tied to verified app purchases, and Korean shoppers write short, unglamorous, specific things — 백탁 (white cast), 끈적임 (tackiness), 눈시림 (stinging eyes). A 4.8 across four thousand of those is a stronger signal than a 4.8 across four hundred curated ones.
It also tells you this product is genuinely, boringly mainstream here. It is not a niche export darling.
What Koreans actually reach for
This is the part a review written from outside Korea cannot add.
Search interest for this brand, same month, two markets:
| Korea | English-speaking | |
|---|---|---|
| Brand | 조선미녀 — 5,400 | beauty of joseon — 110,000 |
| This product line | 조선미녀 선크림 1,300 + 맑은쌀선크림 1,180 | beauty of joseon sunscreen — 74,000 |
| Relief Sun specifically | — | beauty of joseon relief sun — 6,600 |
Two things follow.
First: the sunscreen really is this brand’s flagship in Korea too. Roughly half of all Korean searches for 조선미녀 are for the sunscreen. That is not the usual pattern — for plenty of K-beauty brands, the product the English-speaking internet fixates on is not the one Koreans buy. Here both markets agree, which is why I would point a first-time buyer at this before anything else in the range.
Second: the scale is completely different. About 74,000 English searches a month against roughly 2,500 Korean ones. This is a Korean brand whose centre of gravity has moved overseas — and that is precisely how you end up with Probiotics on one tube and Niacinamide on another. The export lineup and the domestic lineup have drifted.
⚠️ A caveat on my own numbers: Korea runs most of its searches through Naver, not Google, so Google’s Korean volumes understate domestic interest. I use them for relative comparison inside one market, never as an absolute headcount.
The rest of the range, ranked by what Koreans buy
If you are building a basket rather than buying one tube:
| Product | Korean search interest | On the Olive Young shelf |
|---|---|---|
| 맑은쌀 선크림 (Relief Sun) | 1,180 | ✅ confirmed, September 2026 |
| 조선미녀 선세럼 | 170 | [🇰🇷 Kate 확인] |
| 조선미녀 크림 | 70 | [🇰🇷 Kate 확인] |
| Revive Eye Serum (ginseng + retinal) | no measurable Korean search | 🔴 not stocked at Olive Young |
| Dynasty Cream | no measurable Korean search | [🇰🇷 Kate 확인] |
The Revive Eye Serum is worth flagging because it is heavily reviewed in English — but it is not on the Korean shelf, and Koreans are not searching for it. If that is what brought you to this brand, read why that gap exists before you buy.
Who this is for
Buy it if: you want the one Korean sunscreen with the widest domestic and international agreement behind it, you are shopping in Korea and want the 90ml bundle rather than a bare tube, or you want a chemical SPF50+ at about ₩2,700 per 10ml.
Skip it if: you specifically need a mineral filter. This is a chemical sunscreen, and Korea’s mineral options are a separate shelf — see chemical vs mineral for Korean sunscreens.
Check the tube before you pay if: a review sent you here for the Niacinamide version. The Korean shelf currently carries Probiotics.

How I put this together
Not a lab test, not a sponsored placement. What is here: the tube photographed on the Olive Young shelf in Seoul, the app listing and price read on 4 September 2026, the Olive Young review count and rating as displayed, and Google search volumes pulled for Korea and the US in the same month. Where I could not verify something myself, I have said so instead of filling it in.
FAQ
Is Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun chemical or mineral?
Chemical. SPF50+ PA++++.
Rice + Probiotics or Rice + Niacinamide — which should I get?
Probiotics is what is on the Korean shelf as of September 2026. The brand’s own site leads with Niacinamide. They are different formulations in near-identical packaging, so check the English line under 맑은쌀 선크림 on the tube.
What about Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh?
A third formulation in the same line, on the brand’s own site, with about 3,320 English searches a month between its spellings. It is not the version I photographed on the Korean shelf. If you want the one Korea stocks, look for Rice + Probiotics.
Is Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun SPF 50?
SPF50+ PA++++ — the highest common Korean rating. About 3,200 people a month search the SPF50 phrasing specifically.
How much is it in Korea?
₩13,500 for a 90ml Olive Young-exclusive bundle (50ml plus two 20ml), down from ₩20,000.
Is it sold at Olive Young?
Yes — 선케어 > 선크림, with a TRY ME tester on the shelf. Confirmed in person, September 2026.
Do Koreans actually use it?
Yes. About half of all Korean search interest in this brand goes to the sunscreen, and the Olive Young listing has 4,393 reviews at 4.8.
