Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Toner: Original vs Fragrance-Free, and What Korea Calls It

Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner, original vs "for Sensitive Skin": both ingredient lists side by side, the Korean name (무향), and how Korea searches it vs the US.

“Haruharu wonder black rice toner” gets 3,600 US Google searches a month. The longer “haruharu wonder black rice hyaluronic toner” gets another 2,400. The first page is the brand’s US store, Amazon, Soko Glam, YesStyle, Walmart, a couple of blog reviews and a Reddit thread asking “any thoughts?”

Most of those pages describe one bottle. But there are two Black Rice Hyaluronic Toners, and the difference between them is exactly what the Reddit threads keep circling around. This post covers:

  • The two versions, original and “for Sensitive Skin”, with both ingredient lists side by side
  • What the product is called in Korea, because it isn’t the same name
  • How Korea and the US search for it, which shows this is an export-first product

Two toners, one name

The haruharu wonder US store sells two separate products:

  1. Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner, the original
  2. Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner For Sensitive Skin, which the store describes as “our bestseller… with no-fragrance formula”

Both come in 150 ml (5.1 fl oz) and 300 ml (10.2 fl oz). Both have a 30 ml travel size. Amazon’s listing title rounds 150 ml to 5.07 fl oz, so don’t let the two numbers confuse you. It’s the same bottle size.

Retailers name the second one differently. Ohlolly says “for Sensitive Skin”. YesStyle says “Fragrance Free”. That’s why US searches are split across “haruharu wonder black rice hyaluronic toner for sensitive skin” (260 a month), “…fragrance free” (110) and “…fragrance-free” (30). They are all looking for the same bottle.

The Korean name is different again

This is the part the US pages don’t cover. In Korea, “for Sensitive Skin” isn’t used at all.

Where What it is called
haruharu US store Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner / Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner For Sensitive Skin
Amazon (as shown in Google’s results) haruharu wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner, 5.07 fl. oz
YesStyle (as shown in Google’s results) Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner Fragrance Free
Brand’s Korean site (haruharu.com) 블랙라이스 히알루로닉 토너 (“Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner”) / 블랙라이스 히알루로닉 토너 무향 / 블랙라이스 히알루로닉 무향 토너
Olive Young online (as shown in Google Korea) 하루하루원더 블랙라이스 히알루로닉 토너 150ml 기획(+30ml)
Lotte duty-free (as shown in Google Korea) 블랙라이스 히알루로닉 무향토너 150ml

Three things to take from this:

  • 무향 (mu-hyang) means “unscented”. That’s the Korean word for the version sold in the US as “For Sensitive Skin”. If you’re shopping in Seoul or on a Korean site, look for 무향. You won’t see “sensitive” on the label.
  • “Wonder” is part of the brand, not the product. The Korean brand name is 하루하루원더 (haruharu wonder). On the Korean site the toner is simply “블랙라이스 히알루로닉 토너”. Amazon puts “wonder” in the title, while the brand’s own US store drops it.
  • Even the brand isn’t consistent about word order. Its Korean site lists the 150 ml as “토너 무향” and the 300 ml as “무향 토너”. It’s the same product.

What Koreans actually search

Korea (Google) English-speaking (US Google)
Brand, Korean spelling 하루하루원더 — 390
Brand, English spelling haruharu wonder — 480 haruharu wonder — 12,100
Short brand name haruharu — 8,100
This toner haruharu wonder black rice toner — 40 haruharu wonder black rice toner — 3,600
Toner, Korean 하루하루원더 토너 — 10
Toner, other forms haruharu black rice toner — 2,400 · haruharu toner — 1,900
The generic category black rice toner — 590

What stands out:

  1. In Korea, the English name beats the Korean one. “haruharu wonder” (480) gets more Google searches in Korea than “하루하루원더” (390). That suggests many of the people looking it up in Korea are searching in English.
  2. This is an export-first product. US brand searches (12,100) are several times the two Korean spellings combined (870). The toner alone gets 3,600 searches in the US and double digits in Korea.
  3. In the US, the toner is a big part of the brand. 3,600 searches for the toner against 12,100 for the brand name. For many shoppers abroad, this toner is haruharu wonder.

⚠️ A caveat on the numbers: most searching in Korea happens on Naver, not Google, so Google’s Korean figures understate domestic interest. I only use them to compare products within one market, never as a headcount. The Korea column tells you how the brand ranks inside Korea’s Google. It doesn’t tell you how many Koreans use the toner.

There’s also a news hook that fits the export story. Korean beauty trade press (Cosmorning, December 2024) reported that haruharu wonder had launched in 100 Boots stores in the UK, naming this toner as a lead product.

Haruharu wonder black rice hyaluronic toner ingredients, side by side

These are the lists the brand’s US store published when I checked on 26 September 2026.

Original — Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner:

Water, Betaine, Glycerin, Propanediol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Phyllostachys Pubescens Shoot Bark Extract, Aspergillus Ferment, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Cyclodextrin, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Beta-glucan, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Butylene Glycol, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Sodium Phytate, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Glucose, 1,2-Hexanediol, Alcohol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Linalool

For Sensitive Skin (fragrance-free):

Water, Betaine, Glycerin, Propanediol, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract (2,000ppm), Phyllostachys Pubescens Shoot Bark Extract (2,000ppm), Xanthan Gum, Cellulose Gum, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, Aspergillus Ferment, Sodium Gluconate, Hyaluronic Acid (600ppm), Beta-Glucan, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Glucose, Cyclodextrin

What’s different

Original For Sensitive Skin
Lavender oil Yes No
Linalool (a fragrance allergen found in lavender) Yes No
Alcohol Yes, near the end of the list No
Polyglyceryl-10 laurate / myristate Yes No
Chelating agent Sodium phytate Sodium gluconate
Concentrations disclosed No Rice and bamboo shoot bark 2,000 ppm each, hyaluronic acid 600 ppm

The pattern makes sense. Lavender oil doesn’t dissolve in water, so the original needs the two polyglyceryl ingredients to disperse it and a little alcohol. Take the oil out and you don’t need them. The fragrance-free version isn’t just “the same minus scent”. Three or four other ingredients change too.

One thing worth knowing: the store’s “Free from” line for both versions includes “Artificial Fragrance” and “Drying Alcohol”. Lavender oil is a natural fragrance, so it isn’t “artificial”. And “alcohol” appears on the original’s list, near the end. The claim isn’t false as worded. But if your skin reacts to essential oils or to any alcohol at all, read the list, not the claim.

What those ingredients do, in plain words

It’s mostly a humectant toner. After water, the next three ingredients are betaine, glycerin and propanediol. All three pull and hold water in the top layer of skin. That’s where the “hydrating” feel comes from. The hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan add to it, and the gums (xanthan, cellulose, tamarind seed) give the slightly thick, essence-like texture that review threads mention.

“Black rice” on the label just says “rice”. Ingredient lists use INCI names, and INCI doesn’t have a separate name for black rice. It’s listed as Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract. The brand’s Korean press materials describe it as fermented black rice grown in Korea. The fermentation part shows up on the list as Aspergillus Ferment.

The headline extracts are in small amounts. The fragrance-free version tells you the numbers. 2,000 ppm is 0.2%, and 600 ppm of hyaluronic acid is 0.06%. That’s normal for plant extracts and hyaluronic acid in a toner. It also tells you the rice isn’t doing most of the work. The humectants are.

There’s no exfoliating acid. There’s no AHA, BHA or PHA. This is a hydrating toner, not a toner pad or an exfoliating toner.

The brand’s clinical claims

The US store lists two results “after 14 days of consistent use”: moisture improved by 40.43% and skin texture improved by 14.2%. The page doesn’t give the number of participants or how it was measured, so I’m reporting these as the brand’s claims. I haven’t seen the study.

Which version should you buy?

Pick the fragrance-free one (For Sensitive Skin / 무향) if:
– essential oils or fragrance have bothered your skin before
– you’re using it on a damaged or over-exfoliated barrier
– you don’t want any alcohol on the list at all

The original is fine if:
– you like a light lavender scent and it has never irritated you
– you’re buying it for someone who picks products by feel and smell

A Reddit thread in the Google results makes the same point: one commenter found the original’s scent too strong but liked the fragrance-free version. That’s one person’s preference, not a test. But it matches the ingredient difference above, so if you’re unsure, start with fragrance-free.

Skip both if: you want exfoliation, since neither version contains an acid.

How to use it

The brand’s directions are short:

  1. After washing your face, apply it evenly to your skin.
  2. Pat lightly until it’s fully absorbed.
  3. Layer it 2–3 times for deeper, longer-lasting hydration.

The third step is a Korean habit that goes back to the “7-skin method”: thin layers of toner, patted in one after another.

Step Example
Cleanse A gentle cleanser. For makeup, double-cleanse first with an oil like Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil
Toner Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner, 1–3 layers
Serum / cream Your usual
Morning Sunscreen last. There’s another rice-based pick in Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun

Price, sizes and where Korea sells it

Sizes: 150 ml and 300 ml for both versions, plus a 30 ml travel size. The brand’s US store also sells “Duo” sets of each.

Korean shelf name: Google Korea shows an Olive Young online listing for “하루하루원더 블랙라이스 히알루로닉 토너 150ml 기획(+30ml)”. 기획 means a promotional set, here the 150 ml with an extra 30 ml. That’s an online listing, not a confirmed shop-floor sighting.

[🇰🇷 Kate 확인 필요] — 올리브영 매대 여부. _olive_young_confirmed.json 에 하루하루원더 항목이 없다.

What I can say without guessing: in Korea it’s listed on the brand’s own site (haruharu.com), Olive Young online, Coupang, Musinsa and Lotte duty-free. At the airport, look for 무향토너 if you want the fragrance-free one.

How I put this together

This isn’t a lab test, a sponsored post or a personal review. I’ve left the first-person section empty on purpose until it can be written from real use.

What is here:

  • From the haruharu wonder US store, as published on 26 September 2026: both full ingredient lists, sizes, directions and the brand’s clinical claims.
  • Product names as they appear in the top Google results in the US and Korea: the brand’s Korean site, Olive Young online, Lotte duty-free, Amazon and YesStyle.
  • Google search volumes for Korea and the US, pulled the same day.
  • The Boots UK launch as reported by Cosmorning (December 2024).

What I have not confirmed:

  • The ingredient list printed on the Korean box, and whether it matches the US lists.
  • Any price, in Korea or the US.
  • Whether Olive Young stocks it on the shop floor, and in which versions.
  • The sample size and method behind the brand’s 14-day results.

I’ve flagged each of those instead of borrowing a figure from someone else’s page.

FAQ

What is the difference between the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner and the one “for Sensitive Skin”?
The “for Sensitive Skin” version has no lavender oil, no linalool and no alcohol. It also drops the two polyglyceryl ingredients that disperse the oil, and uses a different chelating agent. It also discloses its rice, bamboo and hyaluronic acid concentrations. Everything else is close to the same.

Is the haruharu wonder black rice toner fragrance free?
The original isn’t. It contains lavender oil and linalool. The fragrance-free version is sold as “Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner For Sensitive Skin” in the US, “Fragrance Free” at some retailers, and “무향” (unscented) in Korea.

What are the haruharu wonder black rice toner ingredients?
Mainly water, betaine, glycerin and propanediol, plus rice extract, bamboo shoot bark extract, Aspergillus ferment, ginseng, Scutellaria (baikal skullcap), hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan. Both full lists are quoted above.

What do haruharu wonder black rice hyaluronic toner reviews and Reddit say?
In the threads ranking on Google, one commenter found the original’s scent too strong and preferred the fragrance-free version. One Reddit thread in Google Korea’s results also asks why the larger bottle felt different from the smaller one. Those are individual opinions, not tests.

Does the haruharu wonder black rice hyaluronic toner come in 150ml?
Yes. Both versions come in 150 ml (5.1 fl oz; Amazon’s title says 5.07 fl oz) and 300 ml, and there’s a 30 ml travel size.

Is the haruharu black rice toner an exfoliating toner?
No. There’s no AHA, BHA or PHA on either list. It’s a hydrating, slightly thick toner meant to be layered.

Is haruharu wonder popular in Korea?
It’s much bigger abroad. On Google, US searches for “haruharu wonder” (12,100 a month) are several times the Korean and English spellings searched in Korea combined (870). In Korea the English spelling even outsearches the Korean one. Korean Google figures understate domestic interest because of Naver, but the comparison within Korea holds.
