Every summer in Korea, the heat and humidity do a number on my skin. That’s when I reach for a Korean modeling pack. By midday it feels warm, looks a little flushed, and turns shiny no matter what I do. For a while I just put up with it. Eventually I started doing what a lot of people here already rely on — including the skin clinics: a weekly modeling pack (모델링팩).

If you haven’t used one before, it’s a rubber mask you mix from a powder and an ampoule, spread on thick, and peel off in one piece about 15 minutes later. It isn’t a daily step. Think of it as a once-or-twice-a-week reset for when your skin feels overheated.
Why a Korean Modeling Pack Makes Sense in Summer
As it sets, a modeling pack does three things your skin is begging for in the heat: it draws the heat (열감) out and calms that flushed look, it soaks up the greasy summer sebum, and it leaves your pores looking tighter. The first time I peeled one off, my face genuinely went from hot to calm. That’s the part that hooked me.
Go for a cool tea-tree formula
For skin that runs hot and oily in summer, a cooling tea-tree pack is the one to grab. Tea tree and centella calm things down and cut the grease, and the cooling hit is exactly what an overheated face wants. Two I keep buying:
- Lindsay Cool Tea-Tree Modeling Pack — if a friend asked me where to start, this is the one I’d hand them. It really does cool the skin, it grabs oil, and the tub is so big it works out cheap per use. It’s also the pack a lot of Korean dermatology clinics use for their in-clinic treatments, which is honestly what sold me on it. The only annoying part is mixing it yourself every time (not ideal at 11pm, but worth it).
- Mediheal Derma Modeling Mask (Tea Tree) — this one comes with its own ampoule so the results feel a bit plusher, and the smaller size is perfect if buying a giant tub feels like too much of a commitment for your first go.

How I actually do it (and get a clean peel)
- Prep first. This matters way more than people think. Cleanse, then press in whatever ampoule you really want to sink in deep, because the pack basically traps it against your skin.
- Mix the powder and ampoule into a smooth paste.
- My favorite trick: stir in a little aloe gel (I use Bring Green Aloe Soothing Gel). It stops the mix going rock-hard and gripping your face, so the whole thing peels off in one clean sheet instead of crumbling everywhere. If aloe usually breaks you out, patch test first — I’m pretty fussy with aloe and this one has never bothered me.
- Spread it on thick, skip the brows and hairline, and just lie down for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Peel from the edges in one piece. Rinse off any little bits left clinging to your skin with a splash of water, then gently pat on toner and moisturizer to finish.
Lindsay or Mediheal?
Both cool and de-grease really well, so it’s about you. If you’ll use it a lot and want the best value, get the big Lindsay tub. If you’re new to this or just want the built-in ampoule and a smaller size to test, Mediheal is the easier first step.
A cheap summer extra I’d never skip
One more budget hero: Bring Green Aloe Soothing Gel. It’s so cheap, and it’s a proper Korean summer staple. People slather it on face and body to bring the heat down after a day out in the sun, or pile it on thick as a quick cooling moisture mask. (One affordable tube, a dozen summer uses.)

FAQ
How often should I do a modeling pack?
Once or twice a week in summer is plenty. It’s a treat, not a daily step.
Does it really cool the skin down?
Yes, and that’s the best part. Hot, flushed skin feels noticeably calmer the second you peel it off.
Is it okay for oily, combination or sensitive skin?
It’s brilliant for oily and combination skin since it handles sebum and pores. If you’re sensitive, patch test and stick to once a week.
Why mix in aloe gel?
It keeps the texture soft so the pack peels off cleanly without tugging, and it adds a little extra soothing while it sets.
Modeling pack or sheet mask?
Different jobs. A sheet mask is gentle daily hydration; a modeling pack is an occasional, intensive cooling and sebum-clearing reset. I use both.
When the heat is winning, this is the reset that gives me my skin back — cooler, calmer, and so much less shiny. Pop one in the fridge first if you want it extra icy. ❄️
